Runtime Data Source (RDS)

The Runtime Data Source feature is a very special option to load data into your report. A host application collects the data in a virtual array, and the report will run against this data. So, the data collection is fully at the discretion of the programmer. Data can come from a database, but also a web service, or another non-DBMS source. This Course shows what RDS is and how to use it in DataFlex Reports.

Runtime Data Source (RDS)

RDS stands for Runtime Data source, which means data is being collected by a DataFlex application at runtime. The data is captured in an `In Memory' array, and it can come from a database, or a non-database, for example a web service. RDS relates to DataFlex Reports, and how the data is fed into the report. This lesson introduces RDS.

Why should you use RDS

RDS gives the programmer full control over how the data is collected. It's. This lesson shows situations where RDS would be smart to use and situations where RDS is needed.

Working with the new RDS feature

Integrated in DataFlex Reports is a wizard that creates a report as well as the source code, used for integration. In this lesson the RDS demo application is loaded in the DataFlex Studio. This lesson shows how to work with the RDS feature.

Working with non data in RDS

In some cases it might be useful to create a report that's not based on a connected database, for example a web service. This lesson shows how to work with non data using RDS.
