The DataFlex framework is a complete, integrated, skeletal structure of a business application. Its resources include database connectivity, a business rules repository, data-aware user interface controls and more for web, mobile and Windows environments. Just one framework allows developers to be more efficient and to write less code so they can build and maintain more applications faster at a higher "business" level. This Course shows how to build a business application (Desktop style) with the DataFlex Framework.

Creating the workspace

The DataFlex Studio operates within a workspace. A workspace defines the areas where your source files reside. The workspace is the area where you build your projects. Projects are built by assembling components into a single file. The components will use classes that are known to the workspace. These classes can be defined within the workspace, within libraries used by the workspace, and within the System Library. This lesson shows the general steps to create a workspace.

Creating the Web App

A mobile web application can be used to provide web services using SOAP, or provide services to Web Application Framework applications running in a browser. Web Application projects are designed to host Web Views, Web Modal Dialogs, Web Browser Objects (WBO) and / or Web Server Objects (WSO). This lesson shows how to create a Desktop Web Project.

The System file

A system file within DataFlex is a table that only has a single record, that's used to store auto increment values. Those are used when incrementing the identity columns of other tables. This lesson shows how to create a system file.

The Person table is part of the database layer. On top of this table the business rules can be defined. These business rules will configure how the view will display its fields and specific properties of that view. This lesson shows how to build the person view.

When defining the Media table a relation needs to be created between the Media table and the Person table. This makes the Person a parent table of the Media table. This lesson shows how to create the media view.
