What is a Custom Control

A Custom Control is a reusable, visible DataFlex component that can be added to any view or WebApp. It has two sides: DataFlex and JavaScript. This lesson shows the basic principles of a Custom Control on a fundamental and a technical level.

Events are very similar to ServerActions, but Events are mainly used for the server to interact with actions that happen on the client. This lesson shows the difference between Events and Server Actions and it shows how to create and use Events in a Custom Control.

JavaScript Libraries

Using the previously demonstrated techniques it's possible to wrap the DataFlex Framework around the logic in existing JavaScript libraries. This is useful for quickly building a custom control without having to build the logic inside the libraries. This lesson shows an example of a web application with the Google Maps control.
